Providence - Amica Insurance is donating $6,650 to the Rhode Island Community Food Bank, an organization that strives to provide food to the more than 51,000 Rhode Islanders who require food assistance. Each month, the Food Bank supplies nearly 700,000 pounds of food to those in need, nearly half of which are children.

Part of the donation, $1,650, was raised by selling carnevale masks at a recent WaterFire sponsorship. "Amica feels strongly about giving back to the community, especially here in our home state of Rhode Island," explains Craig Phelps, Senior Assistant Vice President in Corporate Communications. "With the holidays approaching, we want to do our part to help make sure families, especially the children, don't go hungry."

"Support from Rhode Island-based companies like Amica is vital to our mission of providing nutritious food to help our neighbors in need," commented Bernie Beaudreau, Executive Director of the Rhode Island Community Food Bank. "We are extremely grateful for Amica's contribution and look forward to a continued relationship with the company."

Amica Insurance, the nation's oldest mutual insurer of automobiles, was founded in 1907. The company, with Corporate Headquarters in Lincoln, Rhode Island, is a national writer of automobile, homeowners, life, marine, and personal excess liability insurance. Amica employs over 3,000 people in 41 offices across the country.

The Rhode Island Community Food Bank is a non-profit organization located in Providence, RI. The Food Bank solicits stores and distributes food products donated by supermarkets, wholesalers, food processors, local farmers, and community food drives. The food is then distributed to the Food Bank's network of over 400 member agency programs. In the past fiscal year ending June 30, the Food Bank distributed a record 8.3 million pounds of food, while serving an average of 51,000 people each month.
