LINCOLN, R.I.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 17, 2006--Amica Mutual Insurance Company announced today that it has filed with the Massachusetts Division of Insurance to deviate downward from state-set rates, asking to offer a 15 percent multi-car credit for vehicles assigned a driver qualifying for the new Excellent Driver Discount Plus classification of the Safe Driver Plan.

The standard multi-car credit is five percent. The enhanced multi-car discount for safe drivers reflects the expected favorable loss experience for this class of business and the continuing reforms being made to the automobile insurance residual market mechanism.

"Amica has offered discounted rates since 1999, and we are committed to rewarding good drivers with lower rates," said Robert A. DiMuccio, Amica's President and Chief Executive Officer. "In addition, Massachusetts Insurance Commissioner Julianne M. Bowler has remained serious about fixing the anti-competitive automobile insurance system that has existed for years within the Massachusetts marketplace. Our 2006 filing incorporates the anticipated savings that will come with the administration's resolve to see through the reform effort."

Eligible drivers would realize a savings of approximately 10 percent off the state-set rates. For example, a two-car household with an average premium of $2,000 could realize a savings of approximately $200 on annual premiums. Amica also offers discounts on other lines of personal insurance, including homeowners.
