WOODBURY, N.Y., January 23, 2006 — February 2, 2006 is a big day. As the groundhog begins to prepare for his shadow, GEICO is preparing to be "shadowed" by two students from Syosset High School as part of Teen Mentoring Day, sponsored by the Mentoring Partnership of Long Island.

This year, two 10 th graders, Joseph Cervone and David Rein, will spend the day with GEICO's Westbury staff counsel office. The group will travel to the Supreme Court of the State of New York, County of Nassau, in Mineola, where they will observe court proceedings, conferences and portions of a trial. Afterward, the students will tour GEICO and meet with more associates.

For 10 years now, GEICO has worked with the Mentoring Partnership of Long Island to help connect with the youth of New York and help them prepare for their futures. GEICO has served as mentors to 30 local students.

"GEICO believes in business and school partnerships. We hope that we can make a difference in the lives of young people who will be our leaders tomorrow," said Robert Miller, senior vice president of GEICO's Woodbury regional office. "Through a commitment by many of our associates, our goal is to make sure that no child is undervalued and that we can help them become the best."

Teens come to GEICO once a year on Groundhog's Day to shadow adults in a profession in which they have a strong interest. Mentoring Partnership of Long Island provides a list of companies and employees to the teenagers so they can choose whom they would like to follow.

GEICO participates in a number of other school mentoring programs such as the "Prosper Program" at Freeport High School; the "LEAP Program" at Division High School in Levittown; and the "Third Grade Students Go to Work Program" in the Half Hollow Hills School District.

GEICO (Government Employees Insurance Company) is the fourth largest private passenger auto insurer in the United States. It provides auto insurance coverage for more than 6 million policyholders and insures more than 10 million vehicles. GEICO is a member of the Berkshire Hathaway group of companies. GEICO provides consumers with sales, service and claims capabilities on its geico.com Web site.
