TUCSON, Az., January 26, 2006 - GEICO is paring up with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Tucson to participate in its "Match-for-a-Day" kickball game on Saturday, Jan. 28, from 10 a.m. to 12 noon at Fort Lowell Park, 2900 N. Craycroft Road. Students will be matched with GEICO volunteers to enjoy a game of kickball and learn what Big Brothers Big Sisters offers. This event highlights National Mentoring Month.

GEICO encourages their associates to get involved with volunteering in their local communities. Martha Furnas, assistant vice president of GEICO's Tucson office, said, "Volunteering with Big Brothers Big Sisters is rewarding in so many ways, not just for the child, but for the adult as well. A few days a month can make such a profound impact on an at-risk child's life. The GEICO associates who volunteer really look forward to their time with the kids. I encourage anyone who is considering getting involved to contact the local BBBS office to get more information."

Dave Greene, director of community relations for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Tucson, added, "Children will be matched up with GEICO volunteers to play kickball and get to know these GEICO volunteers at a pizza lunch after the game. This event provides a day of fun for both waiting children and GEICO volunteers, and sometimes these volunteers become Big Brothers or Big Sisters after experiencing the program."

The purpose of the Match-for-a-Day event is to draw attention to National Mentoring Month and to create awareness of the need for more adult mentors. While Big Brothers Big Sisters of Tucson currently has over 500 children matched to volunteers, almost 400 more youths in the area are waiting to get a Big Brother or Big Sister.
